Seizing Opportunity at Scout: Meet Shelby LaRosa, Marketing Events Manager

In our Meet the Scouts series, we get to know the people who make the Scout magic possible. This week, we caught up with Shelby LaRosa, Marketing Events Manager.

In less than a year at Scout, Shelby earned a promotion to Marketing Events Manager thanks to her dedication to creating exceptional customer experiences on our events team. Shelby played a major role in Spark 2019’s success, and we can’t wait to see what she’ll bring to Spark 2020.

Read on to find out more about why Shelby loves working at Scout, what makes her successful, and the incredible opportunities for career growth at Scout RFP.

Why did you join Scout?

I joined Scout because I wanted to work for an organization that believed wholeheartedly in their product and in their customers. During my interview, I asked Stan Garber, Scout’s President, what drove him to come to work every day, and he said it was the people that he worked with. Hearing the President say this sealed the deal for me. Company culture and team collaboration are one of the most important considerations when choosing a company to work for.

Did anything surprise you about Scout once you were working here?

It surprised me how much the leaders support and truly believe in their teams. Working at Scout gave me the opportunity to pivot in my career and then accelerate. It allowed me to take a step back from customer-facing roles and do what I love: manage events.

Another aspect that surprised me was the massive impact Scout’s small marketing team creates. I’ve never seen a group of people work more seamlessly together. Each person uses their strengths but also learns new skills to help wherever needed. And this commitment isn’t apparent in just Marketing; everyone with whom I’ve worked at Scout helps out where they can, which creates a very strong organization overall.

How would you describe the environment at Scout?

Supportive, committed, and driven… but most importantly, people at Scout create levity and fun in their day-to-day work.

What are the biggest challenges of your role?

The biggest challenge for me in an events marketing role is to create experiences that cater to many different interests. Not everyone gets excited about the same types of food, locations, and activities. For me, the perfect event might include a specialty coffee tasting among local artist exhibits, but someone else might prefer a role-simulation workshop followed by happy hour. It’s exciting and challenging to create events that resonate with all attendees.

What makes a person successful in your position?

Organization, enthusiasm for learning new skills, and the ability to visualize the big picture while tightening up the smallest details. At Scout, I’ve written content, designed graphics, and handled logistics, production, vendor management, and much more.

Can you describe the advancement opportunities on your team?

Having a clear direction of where you want to go is how you will advance at Scout and there are many opportunities to do so. I had my mind set on what I wanted to do and was ready to dive in to get there. Luckily, I am working in a team that took the time to help me make it happen!

How do you see the market opportunity for Scout’s product?

We use Scout’s platform internally and it saves us an incredible amount of time and effort to get contracts and projects approved. The market opportunity is endless because of the number of ways it can be used by all types of companies, no matter the size or industry.

What do you think makes us stand out from the rest in terms of places to work?

Transparency. At Scout, when you ask a question, you will receive a genuine answer. There is also a great support system here. Everyone is willing to help with whatever is needed (even if it might involve carrying heavy boxes to the post office).

What else should interested candidates know about Scout?

There isn’t a day where you’ll come to work and not learn something new, grow as an individual, and be challenged and trusted with your work.

As We Continue to Grow, Life at Scout Is More Exciting Than Ever

One of Scout’s values is to Promote – in every sense of the word – Our Employees, which is why we are committed to giving hardworking employees like Shelby avenues to success.
